Fatality on Valentine’s Day: LAPD and CHP Investigate SR-47 Crash

On the evening of February 14, 2024, a tragic incident transpired when a black sedan deviated from the SR-47 Southbound, colliding with the embankment adjacent to the Gaffey Street Offramp from I-110 in San Pedro. This unfortunate occurrence cast a somber shadow on Valentine’s Day, as it led to a fatality.

Distressing reports reached the California Highway Patrol at 9:19 PM, revealing that the black sedan had veered off, entangling itself in a chain-link fence. Emergency response teams swiftly arrived at the scene to assess and provide assistance.

Witnesses described the sedan being stuck in the fence, necessitating the expertise of a towing service equipped with a cable for extrication. Falcon Towing from Gardena received the call, with a specific request for 25 feet of cable to navigate the intricate recovery process.

During the recovery efforts, it became apparent that the black Dodge Charger had traveled approximately 100 feet down the embankment. The complexity of the situation prompted the involvement of the LAPD to ensure seamless access and coordination.

In a challenging twist, responders had to break the vehicle’s glass to reach the driver. Sadly, the crash resulted in a fatality, prompting notification of the Coroner’s office.
