A potential tragedy transformed into a narrative of community vigilance and law enforcement effectiveness as officers and detectives successfully apprehended the individual responsible for the abduction of a 4-year-old boy on February 13, 2024.
The alarming incident unfolded around 5:46 p.m. on Feb. 13, 2024, in the vicinity of 1st Street and Linden Avenue. Responding promptly to a kidnapping report, law enforcement rushed to the scene where the child was taken during the theft of his parent’s car, according to police reports.
Swift action ensued, including an immediate search for the child and the stolen vehicle. The California Highway Patrol issued an Amber Alert, notifying the community of the missing child. The combined efforts of law enforcement and the community played a pivotal role in accelerating the search process.
After an intensive two-hour search, the child was discovered unharmed near the initial scene and joyfully reunited with his parents in the 100 block of South Pine Avenue. The vehicle, crucially located by two Good Samaritans, became a key element in the safe recovery of the young boy.
The commendable act of heroism by the Good Samaritans, who promptly contacted 9-1-1 upon finding the vehicle, underscores the significance of community involvement during crises.
Subsequent to locating the vehicle, officers and detectives scrutinized security footage, successfully tracing the suspect’s travel route. The collaborative efforts culminated in the arrest of the suspect, identified as 34-year-old Timothy Wood, a homeless individual, as indicated by the police.
Wood has been charged with kidnapping, child endangerment, and stolen vehicle, with bail set at $100,000.
