Traffic Update!!: Downtown Needles, CA: Needles Jam: West Broadway, J Street, and North K Street Underpass reopened.

As of 10:40am PT on Friday, April 21st, 2017, West Broadway between L Street and J Street was reopened with 1 southbound and 1 northbound as well as West Broadway between I Street and J Street was also reopened to all lanes.

Along with the reopening of West Broadway, J Street between Third Street and Front Street was also reopened to all lanes as well as the North K Street Underpass was reopened to motorists, expect for semi truck or tall camper due to the 8 feet clearance.

K Street at the West Broadway intersection remains closed but is hope to soon be reopen.

The closures were part of the Interstate 40 / Arizona Highway 95 Connector construction project.

As of 10:40am PT on Friday, April 21st, 2017, Needles Jam along West Broadway and J Street is over.

** Reopened: **

– West Broadway between L Street and J Street is open; 1 southbound and 1 northbound.

– J Street between Third Street and Front Street is open; all lanes.

– West Broadway between I Street and J Street is open: all lanes.

– L Street between West Broadway and Eagles Pass Road is open; all lanes.

– North K Street Underpass is open. Do not use if you’re a semi truck or tall camper.

According to Michael Stewart with W.S.P. Parsons Brinckerhoff, there will be “various road closures throughout the next 4 weeks.”

As for the next set of road closures and detours related to the Interstate 40 / Arizona Highway 95 Connector Construction Project, Michael Stewart tells ZachNews that the next step after J Street and K Street will be Needles Highway from West Broadway to North K Street, and finally North K Street from Needles Highway to the Needles Bridge; each leg will take approximately a week.

According to the City of Needles, the project is 39% complete and completion date revised to Thursday, May 25th, 2017.

Road closures, reopens, detours, and traffic control on West Broadway Bridge for the Interstate 40 / Arizona Highway 95 Connector Construction Project.

** Reopened: **

– West Broadway between L Street and J Street is open; 1 southbound and 1 northbound.

– J Street between Third Street and Front Street is open; all lanes.

** Traffic Control/Pilot Vehicle Escorts: **

– West Broadway (West Broadway Bridge) between Market Street and L Street. Motorists must wait for pilot vehicle to escort you over the West Broadway Bridge. Paving work ongoing.

** Closures: **

– West Broadway between I Street and J Street. Soon to be reopen.

– K Street at West Broadway intersection. Soon to be reopen.

– L Street between West Broadway and Eagles Pass Road. Paving work ongoing. Use J Street to Bailey Avenue to get to Needles High School. When paving is done, road will be reopen.

**** 9:00am PT on Wednesday, April 19th, 2017: ****

West Broadway between I Street and L Street in Downtown Needles, California remains closed for the Interstate 40 / Arizona Highway 95 Connector Construction Project.

Paving along J Street and West Broadway is being done and traffic control is in effect along J Street between Third Street and Interstate 40; traffic merged into a single lane for both directions, as construction crews do paving work.

Paving work along the West Broadway Bridge will be done in the next few days.

Motorists should prepare for possible lane restrictions, lane closures, and traffic being escorted by pilot vehicles are possible.

With all of the construction going on in the Downtown Needles, California area, motorist should use Needles Highway to Interstate 40 to J Street as a detour.

Grinding out existing asphalt on J Street near Interstate 40 was happening on Monday, and paving along J Street and West Broadway will begin on Tuesday.

As for the next set of road closures and detours related to the Interstate 40 / Arizona Highway 95 Connector Construction Project, Michael Stewart tells ZachNews that the next step after J Street and K Street will be West Broadway from the B.N.S.F. bridge to Needles Highway, about 4-5 days, then Needles Highway from West Broadway to North K Street, and finally North K Street from Needles Highway to the Needles Bridge; each leg will take approximately a week.

West Broadway between I Street and L Street in Downtown Needles, California remains closed for the Interstate 40 / Arizona Highway 95 Connector Construction Project.

According to the City of Needles, concrete pouring continues in various locations, and the grinding of the asphalt and paving has begun with the first section to be completed is West Broadway between J Street to L Street.

Paving work along the West Broadway Bridge will be done this week meaning possibly lane restrictions, lane closures, and traffic being escorted by pilot vehicles are possible.

Motorist should prepare for more traffic in and around the West Broadway Bridge between Needles Highway and I Street and should use Needles Highway to Interstate 40 to J Street as a detour.

Good news, the intersection of Needles Highway and North K Street have been reopened, but the North K Street Underpass remains closed despite somebody moving the barricades over the Easter weekend.

**** 11:00pm PT on Wednesday, April 12th, 2017: ****

West Broadway between I Street and L Street in Downtown Needles, California remains closed for the Interstate 40 / Arizona Highway 95 Connector Construction Project.

Cement work, work along the sidewalk for new lighting and traffic signal lights, and pavement of roadway work continues in the closure area.

The continuing construction work and closure along West Broadway and J Street will continue for another few weeks.

The closure area includes West Broadway between J Street and I Street as well as on and off closure of J Street between Third Street and Front Street.

Overall best detour, especially for semi trucks and tall campers, is Needles Highway to Interstate 40 to J Street.

If need to drive into the Downtown Needles, California area, the detours around the West Broadway closure is L Street to Front Street to I Street to Third Street.

Businesses along the closed portion of West Broadway as well as J Street remain open for business.

The North K Street Underpass is closed between Needles Highway and Front Street near the North K Street Underpass.

According to Needles City Manager Rick Daniels, due to traffic congestion along North K Street as well as tall vehicles; semi trucks and tall campers, using the North K Street and the North K Street Underpass as a detour to get by the closure along West Broadway, the City of Needles closed the North K Street Underpass for the duration of the project along West Broadway; until the project along West Broadway is completed.

In additional to the North K Street Underpass, North K Street between Market Street and Needles Highway as well as Needles Highway between North K Street and River Road is closed also for construction work related to the Interstate 40 / Arizona Highway 95 Connector Construction Project.

Also utility crews have been seen working on utility poles and lines along Needles Highway as part of a power upgrade project.

**** As of 9:00am PT on Wednesday, March 29th, 2017: ****

ZachNews has learned that traffic in both directions on the West Broadway Bridge, between L Street and Walnut Street, near Downtown Needles, California is being escorted by pilot vehicles into a single lane because of lane closure for construction work along the roadway on the bridge all day on Wednesday, March 29th, 2017.

Only for Wednesday, March 29th, 2017 the North K Street Underpass is open, but not for semi trucks or tall recreational vehicles due to the height restrictions at the underpass.

After today, the North K Street Underpass will be closed until the West Broadway Project is completed.

But, on North K Street at Needles Highway, the roadway is also closed for construction work.

Traffic there is being detoured onto Chestnut Street or Market Street to L Street to Needles Highway.

As for the West Broadway Closure, detours around the West Broadway Closure are still in affect; J Street (If Not Closed) or I Street to Front Street to L Street in Downtown Needles, California.

Construction work still continues as well as the closure along West Broadway, between I Street and L Street in Downtown Needles, California for possibly 10 more days.

Construction work is going on at the intersection of Needles Highway and North K Street in the roadway and utility poles.

Traffic having to go around the closure onto River Street before the Needles Bridge to get the Jack Smith Memorial Park.

Prepare for traffic in the area as motorists wait at the West Broadway Bridge and as traffic gets around the West Broadway closure.

Work on the waterline, retaining wall, curves, and sidewalks have been done and more work is continues.

Work appears to be going on the sidewalk corners at the intersection of West Broadway and J Street.

Work on where the new sidewalks are going to be lay as well as where the new traffic signal lights are going to be installed.

Meanwhile, the retaining wall along J Street, just across the street from Jack In The Box, appears to be completed and just have to lay out the new sidewalk next to the retaining wall.

The Interstate 40 / Arizona Highway 95 Connector project will include new curbs, gutters, and sidewalks, and will be replacing paving and striping, utility relocation, drainage devices, retaining walls, and 3 actual traffic signals (Green, Yellow, and Red Lights) which will be located at the intersections of J Street and West Broadway, West Broadway and Needles Highway, and Needles Highway and North K Street.

The Interstate 40 / Arizona Highway 95 Connector project will also include the widening of the road to ease turns at intersections for RVs and semi-trucks and to alleviate congestion in the traffic hours.

The project was awarded to Hal Hays Construction out of Riverside, California in the amount of $3,312,577.00 and Construction Management will be completed by W.S.P. Parsons Brinckerhoff also out of Riverside, California.

ZachNews has received information from Mike Stewart, Principal Supervising Inspector with WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff, that the West Broadway closure and detours for the Interstate 40 / Arizona Highway 95 Connector construction project will begin on Monday, February 27th, 2017.

The West Broadway closure, named “Needles Jam”, will have both directions of West Broadway, from J Street to L Street, in Downtown Needles, California closed for possibly 2 weeks for construction.

The closure was to start back on Monday, February 6th, 2017 but was delayed from removing water and gas line as well as for a event’s parade.

Construction crews will be working on retaining wall, cross gutters, utility work along West Broadway as well as work to replace the flashing red signal traffic light at the intersection of West Broadway and J Street with new traffic signals which will include green, yellow, and red lights and pedestrian crossing signals.

The current flashing red signal traffic light at the intersection of West Broadway and J Street will be taken out and be off, but temporary stop signs or temporary stop signal will be placed until the new new traffic signals are installed and activated.

**** Detours around West Broadway Closures: ****

Motorists who use West Broadway will be detoured around the closure onto Front Street from either J Street from the east or L Street from the west.

Semi trucks, recreational vehicles, and campers are being ask to use Interstate 40 and Needles Highway as a detour around the closure.

If coming from the Needles Bridge and Mohave Valley, Arizona, make a right turn off North K Street onto Needles Highway; stay on westbound until you pass Wagon Wheel Restaurant; and make a right turn onto eastbound Interstate 40 to get by the closures on West Broadway and J Street.

If coming from the Interstate 40, do not exit at J Street and instead, exit at West Broadway / Needles Highway (Exit #141); make a right turn onto Needles Highway; stay on eastbound Needles Highway to North K Street; and make a left turn onto North K Street to reach the Needles Bridge and access to Mohave Valley, Arizona.

Get ready for Needles Jam begins as both directions of West Broadway, from J Street to L Street, and southbound J Street, from West Broadway to Third Street, in Downtown Needles, California will be closed for construction of the new Interstate 40 / Arizona Highway 95 Connector Project.

**** Time and Date of West Broadway and J Street Closures: ****

According to Mike Stewart, Principal Supervising Inspector with WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff, the full closure of West Broadway between J Street and L Street in Downtown Needles, California, which was to start on Monday, February 6th, 2017, has been delayed by a few days because of water and gas line issues.

Mike Stewart, Principal Supervising Inspector with WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff, tells ZachNews that there are things still needing to be done to the water line and gas line at the Intersection of West Broadway and J Street.

The water line that runs up the hillside will be lowered as part of the project under a new retaining wall that will be build. Mike Stewart said that the full closure of West Broadway could happen in the next few days to sometime next week, but the closure will happen.

The closures and detours will be in place until Monday, February 20th, 2017 unless change by any delays.

Traffic Alert!!: Needles, CA: Semi truck overturned accident on Five Mile Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a semi truck has overturned accident on Five Mile Road in Needles, California.

The overturned accident was reported at around 12:36am PT on Thursday, January 19th, 2017.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the semi truck was carrying frozen food items and is blocking northbound lane.

Traffic is being detoured back towards Interstate 40.

At around 12:23am PT on Friday, September 25th, 2015, a pickup truck with trailer fully on fire was reported along Highway 95 just north of Interstate 40 west of Needles, California.

Both lanes of Highway 95 were closed due to the visibility from the smoke.

A water tender from Mohave Valley Fire Department is being called by San Bernardino County Fire Department to this truck fire.

According to the California Highway Patrol Traffic Incident Information Page, parties are out of the vehicle and the trailer was carrying a truck and car which were loss in the fire.

Firefighters worked to keep the fire from burning near by vegetation.

At 1:37am PT,  the fire was fully put out and was in the mop up stage.

Highway 95 will be reopen as soon as the clean up is over.

At this moment, it’s unclear if there were any injuries related to the fire.

ZachNews is hearing reports over the police scanner of a pickup truck with trailer fully on fire along Highway 95 just north of Interstate 40 west of Needles, California.

The call came in at around 12:23am PT on Friday, September 25th, 2015.

A water tender from Mohave Valley Fire Department is being called by San Bernardino County Fire Department to this truck fire.

Both lanes of Highway 95 is closed due to the visibility from the smoke.

ZachNews has spotted on the National Weather Service weather radar a storm with moderate to heavy rain falling approaching from the south and heading north and northwest to communities along the Colorado River in the Colorado River Tri-State area of San Bernardino County, California; Mohave County, Arizona, and Clark County, Nevada later.

If you’re living in or hanging out in Needles, California; Laughlin, Nevada; Bullhead City, Arizona; Fort Mohave, Arizona; Mohave Valley, Arizona; Topock, Arizona; Havasu Landing, California; Vidal Junction, California; Lake Havasu City, Arizona; Parker, Arizona; Kingman, Arizona; or on the Colorado River, be prepared just in case of any changes in weather condition and if any watches or warnings are issued by the National Weather Service.

If you are driving in the Colorado River Tri-State area, drivers should use caution and be prepare for any changes in weather condition, especially if driving along roads; highways including Highway 95 as well as Route 66, State Route 62, and State Route 163; and interstates including Interstate 40.

If lightning is near and you’re swimming in the pool or in the Colorado River, get out of the water and get indoors a building or inside your vehicle.

If the storm decreases and no flooding issues are happening, the Flash Flood or Server Thunderstorm Watches or Warnings issued will then expire after the noted time.

In case of any Monsoon weather related problems, you, your family, your friends, and your neighbors should always be prepare for the storms by having an action plan in case you have to evacuate from you home or business .

Make sure you have an emergency survival kit with flashlights with fully charged batteries, bandages, antibiotic product, rubbing alcohol, medication, drinking water, canned foods and meals ready-to-eat, extra, clothes and shoes, working weather radio, and other emergency survival related items.

In case of possible heavy rain fall and flooding, protect and block areas that flooding could come into your home or business with sand bags and tarps, and make sure that drains are cleared so that flooding so to prevent flooding from happening.

Weather Update!!: Needles, CA: Thunderstorms brings overnight lightning show, some rain, and short power outage.

Storms moved across the Colorado River Tri-State area on Thursday, August 6th, 2015 through the late overnight hours of Friday, August 7th, 2015 bring light rain in some communities, to moderate and heavy rain in other communities causing Flash Flood Warnings and even some Severe Thunderstorm Warnings to be issued from the National Weather Service in Las Vegas, Nevada.

At around 11:40pm PT, a thunderstorm to the southwest of Needles, California began moving northeast to the Needles, California area and created smaller thunderstorms to the south of Needles, California which would cause a great lightning show in the sky all around Downtown Needles, California.

At around 11:50pm PT on Thursday, August 6th, 2015, ZachNews Photojournalist Zachary A. Lopez began recording the thunderstorm over Downtown Needles, California where bright lightning flashed with loud thunder roaring all around the area.

As ZachNews Photojournalist Zachary A. Lopez continued to recorded the thunderstorm from the old County Bank building along the 1000 block of West Broadway near H Street in Downtown Needles, California.

The bright lightning were striking to the south and east of Downtown Needles, California, including to the east of the Desert Communities Federal Credit Union and the Red Dog Saloon where people were heard amazed by the lightning show in the sky.

Some of the lightning strikes were close by and appeared to be just blocks away from where ZachNews Photojournalist Zachary A. Lopez was recording, and after the lightning strikes, the loud roar and crackle of lightning can be heard on camera.

At around 12:00am PT on Friday, August 7th, 2015, a lightning strike to the northeast of River Edge Golf Course in Needles, California caused the power to go out for a short moment including in Downtown Needles, California as well as on the west and east sides of Needles, California.

Employees at both the Subways and Westside Chevron Gas station in Needles, California tell ZachNews that their power also went out during the thunderstorm and came back on after.

The power did came back out within a few seconds as the thunderstorm began to bring some rain and winds to the area.

According to the National Weather Service, winds at 18 mph with gusty winds at 23 mph was recorded at the Needles Airport just south of Needles, California.

The thunderstorm began to move east and northeast into Mohave County, Arizona well continuing to bring lightning and thunder to the area.

Lightning and some thunder continued from the passing thunderstorm to the east and south of Needles, California between 12:30am and 1:30am PT on Friday, August 7th, 2015 including to the south of the Big Green House located near the intersection of Needles Highway and North K Street in Needles, California.

ZachNews Photojournalist Zachary A. Lopez recorded the thunderstorm with lightning and some thunder from a shopping plaza parking lot near the intersection of Needles Highway and North K Street in Needles, California.

But the earlier thunderstorm that was southwest of Needles, California began to move over Needles, California between 1:30am and 2:30am PT on Friday, August 7th, 2015 bringing more lightning and thunder, and heavy rain fall over Needles, California.

ZachNews Photojournalist Zachary A. Lopez began recording the second thunderstorm with heavy rain falling from Miranda’s Car Wash near the intersection of Needles Highway and West Broadway in Needles, California.

The second thunderstorm brought heavy rain to fall for a few minutes, some bright lightning flashed, and very little thunder roaring as drivers drive along Needles Highway and West Broadway to their destinations with some vehicles pulling their boats on trailers heading to the Colorado River for a weekend of fun.

As the second thunderstorm moved out of Needles, California north and northeast into Mohave County, Arizona, the rain stopped and the wet ground began to dry fast.

At this moment, ZachNews has not received of found any reports of damages, injuries, or deaths related to the storms in the Needles, California or the Colorado River Tri-State area, but ZachNews is continuing to check around for any update information.
