Major Drug Bust: 280 Pounds of Meth Shipped to Pennsylvania Counties

PITTSBURGH, Pa. — A man from Clearfield County, in collaboration with an individual from Oregon, has been sentenced for engaging in the illicit transportation of drugs from the West Coast to various counties in Pennsylvania.

Derek Hillebrand, aged 27, hailing from Troutville, and George Charlan, aged 36, residing in Grants Pass, Oregon, received sentences for their pivotal roles in a cross-country drug distribution conspiracy. Hillebrand is facing an 18-year prison term with five years of supervised release, while Charlan has been sentenced to 15 years in prison, also with five years of supervised release, as announced by U.S. Attorney Eric G. Olshan.

According to the presented evidence, Charlan orchestrated the shipment of more than 280 pounds of methamphetamine and over 100 kilos (approximately 220 pounds) of marijuana from California and Nevada to individuals located in Jefferson, Clearfield, and Allegheny counties.

Hillebrand, it was revealed, received and distributed a minimum of 220 pounds of meth and 100 kilos of marijuana to individuals who subsequently disseminated the substances across Western Pennsylvania.

Charlan, in a coordinated effort, had Hillebrand send substantial sums of money to an individual in California. This individual would then transport the drug proceeds back to Charlan. In total, an amount exceeding one million dollars was dispatched through the mail, according to Olshan.
