Barstow, California: Officers from the Barstow Police Department arrested a local man after a fatal pedestrian versus vehicle crash that occurred along 1600 block of East Main Street that occurred during the night on Saturday, January 7th, 2023.
According to the press release by the Barstow Police Department, at approximately 9:18 P.M., Barstow Police Department officers were dispatched to the 1600 block of East Main Street regarding a vehicle vs. pedestrian traffic collision. Upon arrival, officers located the victim unresponsive in the roadway. Officers immediately began life-saving measures and Barstow Fire Department personnel arrived to assist. Despite all life-saving efforts, the victim was pronounced deceased on scene. The victim was later identified as Drew Ramey, a 39-year-old male resident of Barstow.
Officers spoke with the driver of the vehicle, Eric Zinn, a 42-year-old resident of Barstow. While officers were speaking with Zinn, he displayed objective symptoms of being under the influence of alcohol and he was taken into custody. Barstow Police Detective Austyn Willis and Barstow Police Evidence Technicians responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. Main St. was closed for several hours as Detectives and Evidence Technicians processed the scene.
Zinn has a previous conviction for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and was booked at the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s High Desert Detention Center for PC 187(a) – Murder and PC 191.5(a) – Gross Vehicular Manslaughter While Intoxicated.
