New York, New York: Developer Rockstar Games has confirmed that the videos that were leaked overnight during the weekend is early development of the new Grand Theft Auto 6.
Conflicting reports on what exact time and day when the leak was first announced, either on Saturday, September 17th, 2022 or on Sunday, September 18th, 2022, onto the Grand Theft Auto Forums website, but is confirmed is somebody going only by the screen name “teapotuberhacker,” posted a zip file with 90 videos to the online GTA forum, and claimed they “could leak more data soon,” including source codes, assets, and testing builds from both GTA V and GTA VI.
Fans of the popular video game began flooding online to view the videos; anxiously excited to view the video to find out what will the next Grand Theft Auto have, especially where the location will be for Grand Theft Auto 6.
The videos showed somebody working on the game on a development softwares with “Rockstar Input Mode” and “Rockstar Editor” along with videos the shows a female character during test game play as well as “Vice City” spotted on a building and on monorails, and V.C.P.D. spotted on the back of police department vehicles.
In a statement released on Monday, September 19th, 2022, Rockstar Games said, “We recently suffered a network intrusion in which an unauthorized third party illegally accessed and downloaded confidential information from our systems, including early development footage for the next Grand Theft Auto. At this time, we do not anticipate any disruption to our live game services nor any long-term effect on the development of our ongoing projects. We are extremely disappointed to have any details of our next game shared with you all in this way. Our work on the next Grand Theft Auto game will continue as planned and we remain as committed as ever to delivering an experience to you, our players, that truly exceeds your expectations. We will update everyone again soon and, of course, will properly introduce you to this next game when it is ready. We want to thank everyone for their ongoing support through this situation.”
Well the leaked videos of Grand Theft Auto 6 are being widely circulated on social media, many of the leaked videos have already began to get flagged on Twitter and YouTube for copyright violations.
Coincidentally, the leaks of the videos of Grand Theft Auto 6 came on the day that 9 years ago, Grand Theft Auto 5 was first released back on Thursday, September 17th, 2013.
Grand Theft Auto 5 was the second best-selling video game of all time, shipping over 169 million dollars copies shipped, and was one of the most financially successful entertainment products of all time, with over $6 billion dollars in worldwide revenue.
