Desert Center, California: A lane has been reopened along eastbound Interstate 10 at Rubble Ditch Bridge after flash flooding from passing storms caused a washout along detour lanes at around 6:24 p.m. PT on Wednesday, August 24th, 2022.

According to Caltrans District 8, all eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 are closed due to washout.

Pictures from Caltrans District 8 shows water flowing through a large deep gash along eastbound lanes of Interstate 10, along with sections of drainage pipe that were overwhelmed by the floodwaters.

Construction work is also seen in the area of the washout, working on what appears to be a bridge for eastbound lanes of Interstate 10.

According to Caltrans District 8, these lanes that were washout we’re detour lanes in the construction zone.

As of 7:24 a.m. PT, Caltrans District 8 reports one lane for eastbound traffic was reopened but we’re encouraging drivers to use other alternate routes such as Interstate 40 or Interstate 8.

Motorists should be patient in the area.
