Downey, California: An off-duty officer with the Monterey Park Police Department was shot and killed in a parking lot on Monday, August 8th, 2022.

The shooting happened around 3:25 p.m. P.T. in a parking lot in front of a gym at the shopping center located at 12070 Lakewood Boulevard.

The police officer found a man with gunshot wounds at the scene, and appeared that the man may have been shot in or near a black Dodge Charger.

Paramedics responded and later declared him dead at the scene.

Investigators discovered the victim was an off-duty officer of the Monterey Park Police Department, but the name of the police officer has not been released yet.

A possible motive and circumstances of the shooting are under investigation.

Moments ago tonight, a possession of police vehicles followed the body of the fallen police officer to the corner’s office near Downtown Los Angeles, California; passing underneath a large American flag being draped from 2 ladder fire department trucks from Los Angeles City Fire Department as firefighters stood saluting as the corners van passed by.
