United States of America: United States President Joe Biden has announced that Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri was killed in Afghanistan by a drone strike at 6:18 a.m. Kabul Time on Sunday, July 31st, 2022 (9:48 p.m. P.T. ET on Saturday, July 30th, 2022).

The drone strike hit a safehouse in Downtown Kabul, Afghanistan where Ayman al-Zawahiri appeared on a balcony several times over the course of several months.

“Justice has been delivered. This terrorist leader is no more,” said United States President Joe Biden during a prime-time address from the Blue Room Balcony at the White House on Monday, August 1st, 2022.

The reconnaissance operation was in the works for months, and United States President Joe Biden was briefed periodically during May and June 2022.

A formal and detailed briefing was given to United States President Joe Biden on July 1st, 2022, and United States President Joe Biden was “deeply engaged” and asked questions about minimizing risks to civilians.

United States President Joe Biden then authorized the strike on Ayman al-Zawahiri last week, and a drone strike was conducted.

United States President Joe Biden said that there were no civilian casualties, and that there were no United States military forces on the ground.

Ayman al-Zawahiri was on the Federal Bureau Investigation’s Most Wanted Terrorist list for his alleged role in the 1998 bombings of the United States embassies in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and Nairobi, Kenya.

Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri was a doctor born in Egypt in 1951 and succeeded Osama bin Laden as the head of the terrorist group Al-Qaeda following his death at the hands of U.S. forces in 2011.

The death of Ayman al-Zawahiri comes one year after the withdrawal of United States troops from Afghanistan following more than 20 years of a presence there after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

“The United States continues to demonstrate our resolve and our capacity to defend the American people against those who seek to do us harm. If you are a threat to our people, the United States will find you and take you out,” said United States President Joe Biden.
