Havasu Lake, California: A boat and vegetation fire burned on Wednesday, July 20th, 2022 along Sandy Beach.

Initial reports from the Mohave County  Sheriff’s Office reported a vegetation fire on the California side of Lake Havasu in the area near Chalk Cliffs and Sandy Beach across from Site 6, and was started as a boat fire has spread to the nearby brush.

The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office also says that Bureau of Land Management was on scene, and that no structures are nearby or threatened at this time.

Later, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Colorado River Station provided additional information on the incident in a press release.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Colorado River Station, at 12:27 p.m. PT, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Marine Enforcement Unit responded to the report of a boat fire at Sandy Beach on Lake Havasu. Mohave County Sheriff’s Office, San Bernardino County Fire Department, and Lake Havasu City Fire Department also responded to the location.

The boat fire quickly spread to brush on shore, starting a large vegetation fire. San Bernardino County Fire sprayed water on the fire from their boat and San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Helicopter dumped water on the fire from above. Through combined efforts, the fire was extinguished without further incident and there were no reported injuries from this incident. The ignition source of the boat fire is unknown.
