News Update: Downtown Highland Park, IL: Remembering the victims of the deadly shooting during the Fourth of July Parade.

Downtown Highland Park, Illinois: We are remembering the victims of the deadly shooting during the Fourth of July Parade on Monday, July 4th, 2022.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office has released the names of 7 people who were killed in the deadly shooting.

  • 64 year old Katherine Goldstein of Highland Park:

Katherine Goldstein was a devoted wife and a mother of 2 daughters in their early 20s.

Katherine Goldstein is described as an easygoing travel companion who was always game to visit far-flung locales.

 

  • 35 year old Irina McCarthy of Highland Park and 37 year old Kevin McCarthy of Highland Park:

Kevin and Irina McCarthy were husband and wife, and were the parents of a 2 year old boy who was unharmed during the deadly shooting.

Kevin McCarthy worked with Jaguar Gene Therapy, and is described by the company as a “star employee” with an “incredible work ethic.”

A GoFundMe has been set up by Irina Colon on behalf of his family, and with their permission, to support him and the caregivers who will be tasked with raising, caring for, and supporting the 2 year old boy as he and his support system embark on this unexpected journey.

  • 63 year old Jacquelyn Sundheim of Highland Park:

Jacquelyn “Jacki” Lovi Sundheim was a cherished member at her synagogue, North Shore Congregation Israel.

According to North Shore Congregation Israel, “Jacki was a lifelong congregant of NSCI and a cherished member of NSCI’s staff team for decades. Jacki’s work, kindness and warmth touched us all, from her early days teaching at the Gates of Learning Preschool to guiding innumerable among us through life’s moments of joy and sorrow as our Events and B’nei Mitzvah Coordinator — all of this with tireless dedication.”

 

  • 88 year old Stephen Straus of Highland Park:

Stephen Straus was a grandfather of 4 and very active, he enjoyed life; attending music festivals, loved to get outside, and biked into his 80s.

Stephen Straus was born and raised on Chicago’s South Side, and loved his adopted hometown of Highland Park, where he lived for decades and raised a family with wife of nearly 60 years, Linda, who survives him along with two sons.

 

  • 78 year old Nicolas Toledo-Zaragoza of Morelos, Mexico:

Nicolas Toledo was a loving, creative, adventurous and funny man; and was a father to eight and a grandfather to many.

  • 69 year old Eduardo Uvaldo of Waukegan

Eduardo Uvaldo is the 7th victim of the deadly shooting.

Eduardo Uvaldo was a kind, loving, and funny man who loved parades, especially on the Fourth of July in Highland Park.

The deadly shooting also injured more than 40 people.
