Barstow, California: The Barstow Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in locating Matthew Johnsen for the crime of murder and attempted murder.
According to the Barstow Police Department, at approximately 5:36 p.m. PT on Friday, June 24th, 2022, officers were dispatched to the alleyway to the rear of the 400 block of East Buena Vista Street regarding a man down.
Officers arrived and found the victim, Darrell Yuen, a 36-year-old Barstow resident, on the ground suffering from a stab wound to the chest.
Next to the victim was a female attempting to administer first aid to the victim’s wounds.
Officers also located a second stabbing victim near the 400 block of East Buena Vista Street.
Officers found the second victim, Cary Riley, a 28-year-old Barstow resident, suffering from a stab wound to his torso area.
Barstow Fire Protection District responded to the scene and provided medical aid to both victims.
Darrell Yuen was pronounced deceased at the scene, and paramedics transported Cary Riley to Loma Linda University Medical Center for his injuries.
Detective Mathew Helms arrived on scene and interviewed Cary Riley and the female witness, and he learned that the female was in an argument with her husband Matthew Johnsen, a 33-year-old Barstow resident.
During the argument, Matthew Johnsen stabbed both Cary Riley and Darrell Yuen with a knife, and Matthew Johnsen then fled from the area on foot.
Detectives and an evidence technician processed the scene.
A Deputy from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Coroner Division also responded to the scene to assist in the investigation.
Officers and detectives searched for Matthew Johnsen but met with negative results.
Detective Matthew Helms obtained an arrest warrant for Matthew Johnsen for the crime of PC 187 – Murder and PC 664/187 – Attempted Murder.
The police department is asking for the public’s assistance in locating Johnsen.
