Barstow, CA: Wanted murder suspect from Broward County, Florida was arrested at a Valero Gas Station off East Main Street.

Barstow, California: The Barstow Police Department announced in a press release that a wanted murder suspect from Broward County, Florida was arrested on Thursday, June 9th, 2022 at a Valero Gas Station off East Main Street.

According to the Barstow Police Department, at approximately 9:14 PM, Officer Gemma Day was dispatched to the 1400 block of East Main Street Valero Gas Station, regarding a subject who said he was a murder suspect and wanted to turn himself in.

The suspect provided this information to the store clerk and asked her to call the police. The suspect provided the clerk the name of Louis Ortiz from Florida. Officer Day made contact with Ortiz and confirmed through the Barstow Police Dispatch Center that Louis Fernando Ortiz Jr, age 37 from Marianna, Florida had an outstanding warrant for first degree murder, escape and assault.

Through investigation, It was also confirmed, that Ortiz had escaped from a facility called Sunland Center located in Broward County Florida.

Officer Day placed Ortiz under arrest without incident and booked him at the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto.
