Breaking News: Essex, CA: California Highway Patrol confirms person’s identity in fatal crash during the night last Friday along eastbound Interstate 40 just west of Essex Road.

Essex, California: The California Highway Patrol has confirmed person’s identity in a fatal crash along eastbound Interstate 40 just west of Essex Road during the night on Friday, May 27th, 2022.

According to the California Highway Patrol, “On May 27, 2022 at approximately 2145 hours, the California Highway Patrol (Barstow Dispatch Center) received a 911 emergency call advising of a vehicle crash involving 2 vehicles, on I-40 Eastbound, near Milepost Marker 40-SBD-95. CHP and Cal Fire personnel responded to the scene. Party #1, identified as 54 year old Michael Grieser from Simi Valley was driving his 1999 Ford F-350 and towing a boat trailer within the #2 traffic lane of I-40 eastbound, near Mile Post Marker 40-SBD-95, at an estimated speed of 65 mph. A passenger, identified as 28 year old Ashley Grieser from Simi Valley was seated within the right front seat of the Ford F-350. Two children, both 9 years of age were also passengers seated within the rear seat of the Ford F-350. Party #2, adult male, identified as 44 year old Israel Fenske from Kingman, was driving a 2006 Pontiac G-6 within the #2 traffic lane of I-40 eastbound, near Mile Post Marker 40-SBD-95, when his vehicle became disabled for unknown reasons, ahead of P-1’s path of travel, P-2 was apparently attempting to physically push his vehicle out of the traffic lane and onto the shoulder as P-1 approached his location, Due to the limited visibility and the lack of illumination of V-2, P-1 was unable to take evasive action before colliding into the rear of V-2. Israel Fenske was subsequently impacted during the collision and sustained fatal injuries. This crash is currently under investigation. Intoxication does not appear to be a factor.
