Breaking News: Needles, CA: Crash involving a pickup truck with fatalities versus a car along Interstate 40 just east of Five Mile Road.

Needles, California: A crash involving a pickup truck with fatalities versus a car along Interstate 40 just east of Five Mile Road.

The crash was reported at around 12:36 p.m. PT on Monday, May 30th, 2022.

ZachNews Photojournalist Zachary Lopez rushed over to the crash after reporting on the City of Needles’ Memorial Day 2022 Service at Needles Riverview Cemetery located near Interstate 40.

Firefighters from San Bernardino County Fire District 32, paramedics from Baker Emergency Medical Service and officers on the California Highway Patrol all responded to the crash.

Initial reports from the California Highway Patrol to ZachNews is that a pickup truck was traveling eastbound along Interstate 40 just west of Five Mile Road struck another vehicle causing both vehicles to slide out of control into the center divider where the pickup truck overturned multiple times.

A medical helicopter was called to the scene and landed on the freeway to transport a patient to Sunrise Medical Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Initial reports from the California Highway Patrol to ZachNews is that the driver sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and the passenger who was transported to a hospital by medical helicopter got ejected from the vehicle and succumbed to her injuries.

As for the driver in the other vehicle that was struck, initial reports the California Highway Patrol to ZachNews is that the driver in the car suffered minor injuries.

Additional information including the identities of the deceased will be provided soon in a press release.

The California Highway Patrol didn’t mention or confirmed anything to ZachNews regarding a missing dog from the crash despite some calls into ZachNews reporting a dog did go missing from the crash and a brief chatter on the scanner mentioning a dog at the crash site.

Multiple tow crews tow trucks crews are on scene cleaning up the wreckage and the mess along Interstate 40.

All eastbound lanes of Interstate 40 remain open but the left lane of westbound interstate 40 remains closed due to clean up and removal of the wreckage.

Please drive with caution in this area of the crash.
