Needles, California: The City of Needles held a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, May 3rd, 2022 celebrating the construction of a new playground as part of more improvements and upgrades that are coming soon to Duke Watkins Park and Needles Skate Park.

ZachNews Photojournalist Zachary Lopez was in attendance and recorded the groundbreaking ceremony as officials from the City of Needles thanked those who helped and contribute in getting these improvements to our local parks.

Among those in attendance included the Needles City Manager, members of the Needles City Council and Needles Recreation and Park Commission, City of Needles staff, and representatives from the Needles Unified School District and San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Colorado River Station.

After giving thanks and speaking about what other improvements that are coming to Duke Watkins Park and Needles Skate Park, the traditional shoveling of the dirt occurred.

According to Needles City Manager Rick Daniels, completion of the new playground in about a couple of weeks which the City of Needles plan to have a ribbon cutting ceremony opening up the new playground.

As for completion of the other improvements to Duke Watkins Park and Needles Skate Park, Needles City Manager Rick Daniels said by the end of the calendar year 2022.
