The convoy reportedly looped around along the Beltway’s Outer Loop as onlookers were seen waving flags and signs well they stood along overpasses watching “The People’s Convoy” roll by them.

There was also a noticeable presence of law enforcement officers from the Maryland and Virginia.

In a statement, the Virginia State Police said, “Virginia State Police continues to monitor and prepare for potential commercial and passenger vehicle convoys affecting traffic in and around the National Capital Region (NCR) through the weekend. State police also continues to communicate with our NCR local, state and federal partners concerning this developing situation. Virginia State Police respects the public’s First Amendment rights and has been in contact with various groups’ organizers to ensure their understanding of Virginia traffic laws. These communications have also enabled us to share our expectations related to keeping traffic flowing safely and efficiently on Virginia highways, especially in the case of emergencies and for first responder vehicles. In advance of any convoys entering the NCR region, Virginians can expect to see an increased patrol presence by Virginia troopers and our Motor Carrier Safety teams, as part of the department’s operational plan for this still-fluid situation. These efforts are to mitigate the impact of additional traffic volume on already congested roadways and Northern Virginia communities.

In another statement, the Maryland State Police said, “The Maryland State Police continue to monitor developments in preparation of potential commercial, recreational and passenger vehicle convoys planned by drivers from across the country. Law enforcement, transportation and emergency management agencies in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. are jointly assessing the situation as it develops. Agencies will allocate personnel and additional resources based upon analysis of the situation to ensure safety on our roadways and minimize potential traffic disruptions throughout the region. In addition to road patrol troopers, troopers from our Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division and Automotive Safety Enforcement Division are prepared to assist public safety partners in Maryland and neighboring states to address any violations of law and to maintain the free flow of traffic. Citizens are also reminded of the potential for misinformation and disinformation that could be spread on social media in regards to potential protests. Local, state and federal law enforcement agencies in the region will provide pertinent updates as needed. Follow roads.maryland.gov for the latest traffic alerts.

Organizers from “The People’s Convoy” have said they do not plan on shutting down the Beltway or other roads, and that local law enforcement from multiple agencies have been phenomenal in keeping “The People’s Convoy” participants and the motoring public safe.

According to their website, the convoy plan to meet for breakfast in the morning on Monday, March 7th, 2022 at the Hagerstown’s Speedway Stadium, but no further information was available at this moment.

There are reports that there are lots of trucks and supporters at the stadium, and that the convoy may repeat that route they did on Sunday along the beltway again on Monday.

There are also reports that another convoy group, The American Truckers Freedom Convoy that left Washington on Tuesday, March 1st, 2022, is expected to end up in the Washington, District of Columbia area later this week.

The convoy picked up hundreds of cars and several trucks since the group left on Wednesday February 23rd, 2022 from the Adelanto Stadium in Adelanto, California, and even driving through the small Colorado River desert community of Needles, California.

In a press release from their website, the People’s Convoy is about freedom and unity: the truckers are riding unified across party and state lines and with people of all colors and creeds — Christians, Muslims, Jews, Sikhs, Mormons, Agnostics, Blacks, Hispanics, Asians, Native Americans, Republican, Democrats. All individuals are welcome to participate by either attending the launch gathering — at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday February 23, at Adelanto Stadium — or by getting in their own vehicles and following the big rigs from Adelanto toward the east coast!

The message of The People’s Convoy is simple. The last 23 months of the COVID-19 pandemic have been a rough road for all Americans to travel: spiritually, emotionally, physically, and — not least —financially. With the advent of the vaccine and workable therapeutic agents, along with the hard work of so many sectors that contributed to declining COVID-19 cases and severity of illness, it is now time to re-open the country. The average American worker needs to be able to end-run the economic hardships of the last two years, and get back to the business of making bread — so they can pay their rents and mortgages and help jumpstart this economy. To that end, it’s time for elected officials to work with the blue collar and white-collar workers of America and restore accountability and liberty —by lifting all mandates and ending the state of emergency — as COVID is well-in-hand now, and Americans need to get back to work in a free and unrestricted manner.
