Needles, California: Needles City Manager Rick Daniels has confirmed to members of the Needles City Council that there is a signed lease on a new grocery store.
This announcement occurred during Needles City Council Requests at regular meeting held on Tuesday, November 9th, 2021.
When asked by Needles City Council Member Ellen Campbell on any updates regarding a grocery store coming into the community, Needles City Manager Rick Daniels said, “On the grocery store, there’s a signed lease so we’re expecting that announcement to come shortly on construction schedule.”
Needles City Manager Rick Daniels didn’t release publicly the name of the grocery store, but sources telling ZachNews that The Market in Laughlin, Nevada was looking into coming into the community, and that a few months ago viewed the property at the old Bashas grocery store building located at the Needles Towne Center which is owned by Atlas Properties based out of Laguna Hills, California with a leasing office in Moreno Valley, California.
These pictures from ZachNews in March 2021 people walking through inside the old Bashas grocery store building at the Needles Towne Center with the Needles City Mayor, Needles City Director of Development Services and at least 2 members of the Needles City Council speaking to a group of people inside the vacant building.
ZachNews has repeatedly reached out to The Market in as well as My Market Stores’ corporate offices in Ridgway, Colorado for any comments or responses regarding them coming to Needles, California but hasn’t yet received any emails back, but in a Facebook comment post back on October 8th, 2021, The Market in Laughlin posted in a reply about them coming to Needles, California, “We are in the process of opening out there. There’s no date as to when yet, but it will happen!” (Click on Date to View Comment Relay)
The only full functioning grocery store, Bashas grocery store at the Needles Towne Center, closed back on Friday, May 9th, 2014 and a new 99 Cents Only Store came in a few months later, but they would closed a few years later on Friday, January 26th, 2018, and since the closing the building has sat vacant awaiting any potential grocery store to come occupy the building.
For years after the closings, the community has been asking for a new grocery store to come into town, and the issue has been a hot topic for discussion and debates, especially when the City of Needles vote on anything cannabis related.
But with a new grocery store in reach of potential shoppers, the City of Needles hopes the community will shop at the new grocery store.
Stay tuned to ZachNews for the latest information regarding a new grocery store.
