Topock, Arizona: The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office dive rescue and recovery team continued its search Monday, October 18th, 2021 for a California woman who is missing after apparently drowning in the Colorado River near Topock Gorge that occurred on Thursday, October 14th, 2021.

According to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office, Suzan Weaver reportedly went into the cold water on Thursday after a personal item fell off the boat she was traveling in. A man, later identified as 75-year-old James Weaver, of Valley Center, California, also went into the water, apparently to assist the struggling woman.

James Weaver was unresponsive when he was pulled out of the water by passing boaters, who began performing CPR. Suzan Weaver was not spotted at the scene. James Weaver was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities have searched the area near Topock Gorge, about 15 miles north of Lake Havasu, each day since Thursday but have not located Suzan Weaver. Officials have not released her identity publicly but family members have confirmed it through social media.

“There is still a continuous search ongoing for the missing female who will not be identified until she is located,” said Anita Mortensen, public information specialist for the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s Office personnel, assisted by the San Bernardino County Fire Department and other agencies, have employed divers, boats, aerial units and shore-line searches and have utilized side-scan sonar technology without any success.

Boaters are urged to avoid the area while search operations are continuing.
