Needles, California: A fatality crash involving a semi truck and a vehicle has occurred along westbound Interstate 40 near Needles Highway.
The crash was reported at 11:00 p.m. PT on Monday, October 18th, 2021 of a semi truck and a sedan.
Initial reports from the calling party said that the vehicle came from eastbound side, came to a rest in the center divider and “no party out of sedan, no movement coming from vehicle.”
Medical Engine 32 from San Bernardino County Fire Station 32 along with Medical Ambulance 31A and California Highway Patrol responded to the scene.
Reports of major damage to vehicle and minor damage to semi truck.
Medical Engine 32 reports to Comm-Center that “1 DOA and two non-injuries.”
ZachNews received a press release from Sergeant Eric Pena from the California Highway Patrol Office in Needles, California regarding the fatality crash.
“At approximately 10:59 p.m. (PT), a Subaru Forester was traveling eastbound on Interstate 40 in the #1 of 2 lanes while a Freightliner in combination with a semi-trailer was traveling westbound on Interstate 40 in the #1 of 2 lanes. For reasons under investigation, the Subaru turned to the left from an otherwise straight path of travel. The driver lost control as the Subaru left the eastbound lanes of Interstate 40 and veered through the dirt median. The Subaru continued into the westbound lanes of Interstate 40 in front of the path of the Freightliner. As a result, the Subaru and Freightliner impacted head-on. After the crash, the Subaru came to rest within the median of Interstate 40 as the Freightliner came to rest on the right shoulder of westbound Interstate 40. The driver of the Subaru sustain multiple traumatic injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and passenger of the Freightliner was not injured in the crash. The driver of the Subaru’s identity is pending confirmation from the San Bernardino County Coroner’s office, and the traffic lanes for eastbound and westbound Interstate 40 remained unobstructed and unaffected during the investigation,” stated press release from California Highway Patrol Sergeant Eric Pena.
