International: Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Oculus is coming back online after an hours long worldwide outage on Monday, October 4th, 2021.
The first reports on DownDetector.com started around 11:44 a.m. ET impacting users on both desktop and mobile.
Facebook users reported seeing an error message that says ‘This site can’t be reached’ and on Instagram, the error message shows as a ‘5xx Server Error’ message.
For other users, Instagram was working but not Facebook, and some user reported WhatsApp was working for a time, then stopped working.
“We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience. Just after 6:30 pm ET, Facebook tweeted that its apps and services were beginning to work again after the hours long worldwide outage
“To the huge community of people and businesses around the world who depend on us: we’re sorry. We’ve been working hard to restore access to our apps and services and are happy to report they are coming back online now. Thank you for bearing with us,” tweeted Facebook.
The cause for the outages was not immediately confirmed.
