Needles, California: A semi truck with livestock trailer has overturned along eastbound Interstate 40 just west of River Road Cutoff.
The overturned crash was reported at 5:35 a.m. PT on Thursday, September 30th, 2021.
ZachNews Photojournalist Zachary Lopez rushed towards the scene of the initial hazardous materials incident, to later finding out overturn crash involving a semi truck with livestock trailer.
California Highway Patrol telling ZachNews that there is cattle inside the overturned livestock trailer.
People who own the cattle, tow crews, Caltrans workers, officers from the California Highway Patrol and firefighters from the San Bernardino County Fire Department were seen all working together to rescue the livestock, give them water and help them get put onto another livestock trailer.
According to the San Bernardino County Fire Department, a total of 27 cattle with 7 cattle “D.O.A.” dead on arrival.
California Highway Patrol tells ZachNews that the driver refused treatment but then later transported himself to the hospital for pains feelings.
As for the hazardous material situation that initially was reported, the California Highway Patrol tells ZachNews that this was the diesel spill that spilled following the overturned crash.
Hazmat crews are on scene removing the soil that diesel spilled.
ZachNews has learned that the cattle will be getting checked up an animal doctor at the fairgrounds in Kingman Arizona.
The right lane along eastbound Interstate 40 is closed until the situation is cleared, and traffic is backed up to the railroad overpass to the west of the incident.
