Needles, California: Water has been turned off and the leak has been sealed up after a water leak was discovered on Monday, September 27th, 2021 along an unused water pipeline underneath East Broadway along a flood control channel.
The water leak was discovered at 1:19 p.m. PT by ZachNews Photojournalist Zachary Lopez well walking along East Broadway just south of Smith Road.
Crews from the City of Needles’ Water, Wastewater and Public Works Departments were immediately contacted and quickly responded to the scene, and began investigating the water leak to locate the source.
Well at the scene, water can be spotted leaking through cracks of a concrete wall, and the water going down into the tunnel of the normally dry flood control channel.
On Tuesday, September 28th, 2021, crews located the source of the water leak, an unused water pipeline that went only to the old recycling facility which is no longer there.
Crews turned off the water, began draining out the water, sealed the leak area of the water pipeline and covered the hole back up where crews had to access the water leak area.
No water advisories or warnings were issued, no water customers were affected and the roadway is stable and wasn’t jeopardize by the water leak.
Great work to all of the crews from the City of Needles’ Water, Wastewater and Public Works Departments for their quick response and taking action on the water leak.
