Breaking News: San Bernardino, CA: Deputy from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department wounded during traffic stop shooting with suspect who remains at large.

San Bernardino, California: A deputy from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department was shot while attempting a traffic stop on Tuesday, August 17th, 2021.

According to San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Shannon Dicus, the unnamed 27 year old deputy, was shot during an attempted traffic stop at 4:14 p.m. PT.

The deputy was transported to the Community Hospital of San Bernardino.

The full extent of the deputy’s injuries has yet to be determined, but San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Shannon Dicus said that they appear to be superficial injuries to his face and some shrapnel in his arm.

“According to the medical staff … it looks like he’s going to come through this OK,” said San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Shannon Dicus.

As of 10:00 p.m. PT, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Shannon Dicus tweeted via Twitter that the deputy was “in stable condition and in good spirits.”

San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Shannon Dicus said that the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department are not yet sure why the deputy initiated the traffic stop.

The San Bernardino Police Department is asking the public to avoid the area near Baseline Street between Valencia Avenue and Tippecanoe Avenue due to police activity and an ongoing investigation.

According to San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Shannon Dicus, the deputy was passing through San Bernardino, California when the traffic stop was made, the shooting investigation is being handled by the San Bernardino Police Department.

“They have not identified a suspect yet, but it’s an ongoing, active investigation,” said San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Shannon Dicus.

As of about 9:30 p.m. PT, no arrests had been made in the shooting, and because the assailant remains at large, officers are not ruling any motivations behind the attack.

“We don’t know the suspect. We don’t know anything about him, how random this is. We could be dealing with somebody with this pretty serious arrest more for a heinous crime. There’s a lot of violence going on right now, as you well know, violent crimes are on the rise, and our deputies constantly have to be alert for whatever the threats are out there,” said San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Shannon Dicus.
