San Bernardino, California: Family, friends and the law enforcement community came together to remember and honor the life of Sergeant Dominic Vaca during a memorial service on Friday, June 11th, 2021 at the Glen Helen Amphitheatre.
Sergeant Dominic Vaca of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Morongo Basin Station passed away from his injures after being shot by a suspect at the end of a motorcycle police pursuit on Memorial Day.
During the memorial service, Sergeant Dominic Vaca was remembered and honored by the law enforcement family for his dedicated and passionate about his work; an honest friend who didn’t tell you what you wanted to hear, he give it to you straight; a true man of public service who did his job being he wanted to service; loved his wife and children and loved his second family he worked with, a family of soldiers.
Vaca served for 6 years in the United States Army, entering basic training in July 1996 and was subsequently stationed at Fort Irwin near Barstow, California.
His Military Occupational Specialty was Bradly fighting vehicle system mechanic.
Vaca was awarded three Army Commendation medals, two Army Achievement Medals, a Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, an Overseas Service Ribbon, Expert Marksmanship Qualification Ribbon with a grenade bar, and was qualified as a sharpshooter with automatic rifles.
On January 23, 2002, Vaca was Honorably Discharged from the United States Army.
Vaca was a 17 year veteran of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department and served as a sergeant at the Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Station.
