San Bernardino, California: The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department has announced that a memorial service will be held for Sergeant Dominic Vaca on Friday, June 11th, 2021 at the Glen Helen Amphitheatre.

On Monday, May 31st, 2021, 43 year old Sergeant Dominic Vaca passed away after succumbing to his injuries from being shot by a suspect at the end of a motorcycle police pursuit.

Vaca was a 17 year veteran of the department and served as a sergeant at the Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Station.

Before  the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Vaca served for 6 years in the United States Army, entering basic training in July 1996 and was subsequently stationed at Fort Irwin near Barstow, California.

His Military Occupational Specialty was Bradley Fighting Vehicle (BFV) system mechanic.

Vaca was awarded three Army Commendation medals, two Army Achievement Medals, a Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, an Overseas Service Ribbon, Expert Marksmanship Qualification Ribbon with a grenade bar, and was qualified as a sharpshooter with automatic rifles.

On January 23, 2002, Vaca was Honorably Discharged from the United States Army.

 

Starting at approximately 6:45 a.m. PT Friday, Vaca’s procession will depart from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Coroner’s Office.

At 10:00 a.m. PT Friday, the memorial service will be held Friday at the Glen Helen Amphitheatre.

The memorial service will be closed to the public, but it will be live streamed online.

A memorial fund has been set-up, with all proceeds going to Vaca’s wife and children.
