News Alert: Needles, CA: City of Needles announces the reopening of the recreation, aquatics, and senior centers after over a year of California’s COVID-19 shutdown and restrictions.

Needles, California: The City of Needles has announced that beginning on Tuesday, June 15th, 2021, the Needles Recreation Center, Needles Aquatics Center, and Needles Senior Center will soon resume pre-COVID-19 operations.

Needles City Mayor Jeff Williams said “Finally, we are seeing the end of the statewide shutdown of much needed programs and activities. The state’s approach has been too restrictive and has led to isolation of our youth and seniors. People need to be with people.”

The Senior Center will resume the senior meal program with in-building congregate noon meals Monday through Friday at 11:30 a.m. Reservations are required by calling 760-326-2898 between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m. Popular senior activities such as the weekly line dance class will resume on Wednesday, June 30; body-in-motion exercise class on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday resuming June 21; Wii Play on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday will resume on June 21; crafts scheduled the 2nd Tuesday of the month will resume July 13; and Senior Bingo is scheduled to resume in the Fall. The Needles Recreation Center also resumes youth and adult programs. There is a planned extended summer camp program beginning on June 7, Pee-wee basketball resuming on July 6 and possible summer youth basketball on July 6, summer dance classes at Dance Trax Studio, adjacent to the Recreation Center beginning on June 8th at 9:00am, and open gym is currently 10am to 4pm with a capacity of 25%, or 63 persons. Open gym hours will change on June 7th to 9am – 11am, Monday – Thursdays for the month of June. This year the Needles Unified School District will be offering for all students who participate in any youth recreation programs for the Summer to have their registration/participation fees paid in full. This will include Summer Day Camp $3.00 per day, Swim Lessons @ $28 per sessions (8-1/2hr lessons), Golf Camp @ $80 a week at Rivers Edge Golf Course, Dance Classes @ $10 a class and Summer basketball for $35 or $45 per player. This is an amazing opportunity for all NUSD students to enjoy all of the Recreation being offered within the City of Needles.

The Needles Aquatics Center resumes operations on June 7th for Lap swim at 6:30am with exercise at 8am – 9:15am, swim lessons at 10am and 11am and open swim to follow from 12pm – 4pm and 7pm to 9pm, Monday – Thursdays. Weekends in June we offer open swim from 2pm to 6pm.
