Downtown Needles, California: The Needles Chamber of Commerce and City of Needles have entered into a contractual agreement to build and operate an official Needles Visitors’ Center.

In a press release emailed moments ago, the Needles Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Needles have entered into a contractual agreement whereby the Chamber will build and operate an official Needles Visitors’ Center.

The future home of the Visitors’ Center will none other than the “Crown Jewel of the Desert,” a former Harvey House, the El Garces Train Depot in Santa Fe Park, downtown Needles. “The project has a long history of fits and starts,” agreed Pam Blake and Lyn Parker who were involved in the earliest endeavor which was to gain California Welcome Center status beginning in 2016.

Undeterred by roadblocks along the way, renewed efforts resulted in progress towards the Visitor Center concept.

“We knew we could not accept a challenge that would set us up to fail. We knew the tasks would be hard, but we persevered and completed the mission,” said Needles Chamber of Commerce President George DeLeon.

The two entities, the Chamber and the Visitors’ Center, will work side-by-side, the Chamber playing an administrative role.

“Marketing the City and the friendly business climate will be the major focus, along with attracting visitors and tourism. The El Garces is an ideal location; finally, there will be foot traffic on that magnificent property,” stated the press release from the Needles Chamber of Commerce.

The Needles Visitors’ Center and Area Chamber of Commerce will comprise a bit over 1200 square feet. It will contain open visitor space; open, welcoming office and administrative areas; public seating and a retail area; brochures, maps and visitor information; local attraction displays with artifacts of interest; rotating exhibits from agencies such as the BLM, Park Service, Bureau of Reclamation, and the Sand to Snow Monument areas.

The new center will partner with local entities, schools and agencies to present programs of interest to the community and tourists. The center will also have a large conference room that will be available for community meetings and conferencing. State of the art technology will provide visitors with looping videos that feature local attractions.

“The Needles Chamber looks forward to this new chapter in its 100-year life! Stay tuned for some fun info next week. How about a logo contest? How about joining the El Garces Ambassadors? How about becoming a Charter Member of the Chamber Kids? How about a contest to see who gets to cut the opening ribbon? All coming next week,” stated the press release from the Needles Chamber of Commerce.
