The Los Angeles Police Department said that the children’s mother, 30 year old Liliana Carrillo, was soon identified as the “sole suspect” in the slayings, spurring a manhunt that ended when she was apprehended later that afternoon in the Ponderosa, California area of Tulare County.

According to the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office, Liliana Carrillo was tracked down and arrested on Saturday in Ponderosa, California after carjacking someone.

Sheriff Mike Boudreaux with the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office said while heading northbound on Highway 65, just north of Bakersfield, Carrillo crashed her car, and when a man pulled over in his pick-up truck in an effort to help Carrillo, she makes her way over to his truck and hops in his truck and takes off northbound on the Highway 65.

Inmate records in Tulare County, California indicated Liliana Carrillo had been booked on suspicion of second-degree robbery, and her bail was set at $60,000.

Investigators are still trying to determine a motive in the case.

The Los Angeles Times recently spoke to the children’s father, Erik Denton, who said he had sought custody of the kids in recent weeks, and last month tried to petitioned a Tulare County court for the mother to undergo a mental health evaluation.

A hearing in the the child custody dispute was scheduled for Wednesday, and Erik Denton told the Los Angeles Times that he had attempted to get authorities in Los Angeles, California involved in the case but “they wouldn’t help. The LAPD would not get involved.”

Erik Denton told the Los Angeles Times that Liliana Carrillo was supposed to turn the children over to him on Sunday.

Meanwhile, a memorial of photographs, candles, flowers and balloons grew outside the apartment complex on Monday.

A GoFundMe fundraiser for the father which has so far garnered more than $30,000 in donations by Monday afternoon.
