Breaking News: Bullhead City, AZ: Construction boring rig causes internet and phone service outage in Colorado River Tri-State area after cutting fiber optic line.

Bullhead City, Arizona: Customers of multiple internet and phone service providers lost internet and phone service from Needles, California to Bullhead City, Arizona on Saturday, February 6th, 2021.

At around 5:00 p.m. PT, customers for Golden Valley Cable and Communication and Z-Fiber began reporting their internet service was down, and customers for Frontier Communication reporting their internet and phone service was down.

Some customers with AT&T and Verizon were also reporting service problems in Needles, California, Bullhead City, Arizona and Kingman, Arizona, saying they can’t get internet or having problems hearing incoming calls but able to make outgoing calls.

Bullhead City Police Department confirmed that their 911 Dispatch Center was experiencing problems due to a Frontier Communications issue, and all 911 calls were being diverted to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office, and they will be handled calls and dispatching appropriately for police, fire and emergency medical assistance.

The Bullhead City Police Department alerting people on Facebook about the problem, saying while the issue is being resolved, please contact Mohave County Sheriff’s Office’s non-emergency dispatch line at: 1 (928) 758-0700.

Internet service at ZachNews was also affected by only the internet service outage, only relaying on mobile internet service to provide news updates.

ZachNews has learned that a fiber optic line was cut at a construction site, possibly by a construction scraper truck, in the area of Ocotillo Avenue and Landon Drive in Bullhead City, Arizona.

As of 9:40 a.m. PT, ZachNews has learned that crews are working on repairing the fiber optic line, and internet and phone service is beginning to slowly come back on for some internet and phone service providers.

Internet service with Golden Valley Cable and Communication is back on, including at ZachNews, and crews with Z-Fiber are working on restoring internet service to their customers.

As for Frontier Communication, a few calls to local businesses around Needles, California who have phone service with Frontier Communication are getting a disconnected message, including a local River City Pizza Company and Rite Aid pharmacy store.

People who plan to order or shop at those affected restaurants or stores should prepare to use cash instead of Credit, Debt Cards or EBT Food Card.

Residents and business customers with Frontier Communication who are still without internet or phone service should call Frontier Communication’s tech support at: 1-800-921-8106.

As of 12:32 p.m. PT, ZachNews has learned that construction crews are on scene near Ocotillo Avenue and Landon Drive working with tech crews on location where the fiber optic line was cut.
ZachNews is being told that at this moment, the suspected cause of the fiber optic line being cut is a piece of construction equipment, either a boring machine or construction scraper.
At this moment, no estimated time on when the fiber optic line will be repaired, and no estimated time on when service for customers who are still without internet and phone service will be fully restored.
As of 1:48 p.m. PT, ZachNews has learned that crews have found the fiber optic line cut 500 feet east of Ocotillo Avenue and Landon Drive.

The cause of the cut to the fiber optic line that lead to customers from multiple internet and phone service providers without internet and phone in the Colorado River Tri-State area is a construction boring rig that cut into the fiber optic line.

Fiber optic restoration crews are on site, and have an estimated time of three hours for services to be restored.

As of 6:40 p.m. MST on Sunday, February 7th, 2021, Bullhead City Police Department reports that crews are currently working on a damaged fiber optic line near the Bullhead Parkway. The dispatch center is receiving 911 calls made from landline phones well other calls are still being rerouted and handled appropriately by Mohave County Sheriff’s Office.

ZachNews has learned that internet and phone services from Frontier Communications are beginning to slowly be restored.

As of 4:10 a.m. MST on Monday, February 8th, 2021, Bullhead City Police Department reports that service to 911 Dispatch Center has been restored.
