Needles, California: The Needles City Council, Needles Public Utility Authority and Successor Agency to the Redevelopment Agency held a meeting as well as the City of Needles administered the Oath of Office inside the Needles City Council Chambers on Tuesday, December 15th, 2020.

The Needles City Council, Needles Public Utility Authority and Successor Agency to the Redevelopment Agency Meeting as well as the Oath of Office was broadcast live at ZachNews on Facebook.

The Needles City Council is continuing to hold meetings pursuant to the provisions of the Governor’s Executive Order N-29-20 which suspends certain requirements of the Ralph M. Brown Act.

As a result of the Executive Order to stay at home, in person participation at the City Council meetings is not allowed at this time and the Council Chambers are not open to the public.

The public were able to attended tonight’s meeting of the Needles City Council and Needles Public Utility Authority via Zoom.

Needles City Council Members Shawn Gudmundson, Timothy Terral, Tona Belt and Zachery Longacre as well as Needles City Vice Mayor Edward T. Paget M.D. were all present inside the chamber. Re-elected Needles City Mayor Jeff Williams was given an excuse absence from the meeting.

Also, newly elected and later to be seated on the city council Kirsten Merritt was present inside the chamber well newly elected and later to be seated on the city council Ellen A. Campbell was present via teleconference/Zoom.

Needles City Manager Rick Daniels as well as Needles City Clerk Dale Jones were also present inside the chamber well Lena Wade from Slovak, Baron, Empey, Murphy & Pinkney L.L.P. was present via teleconference/Zoom, sitting in for Needles City Attorney John Pinkney.

Members of the Needles City Council unanimously voted to approve Resolution No. 2020-83 Reciting the Fact of the General Municipal Election held on November 3, 2020, declaring the results, and such other matters as provided by law.

The San Bernardino County Registrar of Voters final certified the election voting results on Tuesday, December 1st, 2020, and the voting results showed that Incumbent Tona Belt, Kristen Merritt and Ellen A. Campbell won the elections to fill three seats on the Needles City Council, and showed that Incumbent Needles City Mayor Jeff Williams won the election in Needles, California against Sandra Queen Noble.

Administer Oath of Office and deliver Certificate of Election to newly (re) elected Mayor Jeff Williams and newly (re) elected Council Members Tona Belt, Kirsten Merritt and Ellen A. Campbell.

Needles’ City Clerk’s Office Dale Jones administered the Oath of Office to the newly elected members of the Needles City Council Tona Belt and Kristen Merritt in person and Ellen A. Campbell who was participating via teleconference/Zoom.

Tona Belt, Kristen Merritt and Ellen A. Campbell later thanked all of the people who voted for them.

Unfortunately, Jeff Williams was unable to attend or participate via phone/Zoom for the Oath of Office or meeting due to health issues.

Needles’ City Clerk’s Office Dale Jones or Needles City Manager Rick Daniels didn’t provide further information on if or when Jeff Williams will be officially be sworn into office when he’s feeling better, and ZachNews didn’t received any notifications that the Oath of Office was going to be administer later in the week or that the Oath of Office was already administered.

Later on Monday, December 21st, 2020, ZachNews got to briefly speak to newly elected Needles City Mayor Jeff Williams, and said that he was sworn into office via telecommunication back on Friday, December 18th, 2020.

ZachNews has learned that Jeff Williams is slowly returning to good health, and thanked those in the community for their vote.
