Los Angeles, California: The Los Angeles Police Department have arrested on Thursday, November 19th, 2020 two people on suspicion of murder after the body of missing Juan Carlos Hernandez was found in a shallow grave near Barstow.
Juan Hernandez was last seen on September 22nd, 2020 when he left home for his job at a cannabis dispensary in south Los Angeles, California, and went missing after he didn’t return from work that night.
On November 15th, 2020, body remains were found in a shallow grave along Afton Canyon Road just east of Interstate 15 near Barstow, California with the help of deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
The San Bernardino County Coroner’s Department confirmed the identity of the body found last Sunday as 21 year old Juan Carlos Hernandez, and determined he was the victim of a homicide.
On Thursday, the Los Angeles Police Department arrested two people, identified by law enforcement as 27 year old Ethan Astaphan and 20 year old Sonita Heng.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, detectives and SWAT officers served on Thursday search warrants at Astaphan and Heng’s residences, and both were subsequently booked on suspicion of murder in connection with Juan Carlos Hernandez’s death.
The this moment, authorities did not provide further details on whether the suspects knew Hernandez, or comment on a possible motive in the case, and authorities say the investigation is ongoing.
