Needles, California: Motorists who drive over Interstate 40 along Lillyhill Drive will have to find alternate routes beginning on Monday, November 16th, 2020 as repair work will begin on an eroded water line underneath D Street just south of Cibola Street.
The eroded D Street water line was discovered between Monday, October 26th, 2020 and Tuesday, October 27th, 2020 as work crews were working on final repair work on a water line underneath Lillyhill Drive (Blue Marked on Map) that erupted back on Tuesday, January 14th, 2020.
The discovery of the eroded water line (Yellow Dot on Map) was a good find before another water line eruption occurred.
Needles City Manager Rick Daniels tells ZachNews, “As part of the $350,000 State Water grant we were required to investigate the north approach to the bridge. Upon uncovering that section, we found through x-rays that the same situation where the thickness of the transmission line had eroded 2/3 of the original pipe thickness.”
The repair work on the eroded D Street water line means that there will be another closure along Lillyhill Drive between where D Street mets Lillyhill Drive at Cibola Street to Casa Linda Street beginning on Monday, November 16th, 2020 and will last until Wednesday, November 18th, 2020.
“This upcoming week the Water crews with the cathodic protection vendor and the excavation vendor will uncover the pipe, replace the eroded section, and add the same treatment as the original repairs,” said Needles City Manager Rick Daniels.
Motorists should again use alternate routes around the closed portion of Lillyhill Drive, including the bridge portion as work will be occuring during those days.
ZachNews will be monitouring the repair work and will provide any news updates as they arrive.
