News Update: Wilmington, CA: Suspect taken down and arrested after a police pursuit with kids inside vehicle that started in Joshua Tree.

Wilmington, California: A suspect was taken down and arrested after a police pursuit with kids inside vehicle that started in Joshua Tree on Wednesday, November 11th, 2020.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the police pursuit started around 9:15 a.m. PT in the Joshua Tree, California area after the driver failed to yield for a traffic stop.

The gray Lincoln Navigator drove onto Interstate 10 from California State Highway 62, and began heading west out of San Bernardino County into Los Angeles County.

Television stations began broadcasting live news coverage of the police pursuit, including KTLA Channel 5 and KTTV Fox Channel 11 via news helicopters.

The suspect drove south along Interstate 605 than drove west along California State Route 91 (Artesia Freeway) before exiting and driving along several surface streets.

During the police pursuit, the California Highway Patrol reports that there were two children, a 13 year old and a 3 month old baby, inside the vehicle.

The suspect than entered onto Interstate 110 (Harbor Freeway) going south, than drove east along California State Route 47 crossing the Vincent Thomas Bridge and the new Gerald Desmond Bridge; driving over the newly built bridge which is part of the extension of Interstate 710 just west of Long Beach.

The suspect stayed along Interstate 710 driving north, than driving west along Interstate 405 ( San Diego Freeway) before exiting in Torrance and getting back Interstate 405 driving south.

Throughout the police pursuit, the suspect was changing speeds; the highest the suspect spend was at 116 mph, and had moments the suspect drove recklessly, but even when the suspect began easing up on the driving thinking he lost the police, the sky of police and news helicopters were still over the suspect following ever move he makes with kids still inside the vehicle.

The suspect than exited southbound Interstate 405 in Wilmington, driving along North Wilmington Boulevard near West Denni Street.

At 11:55 a.m. PT, the suspect made a u-turn and stopped the vehicle as two children got out of the vehicle near an apartment building, where a woman approached the SUV while carrying an infant.

As the kids were out of the vehicle, the suspect tried to drive forward by a police cruiser blocked his path, and the suspect got out of the driver’s side of the vehicle and began running.

As the suspect ran in and out of the street, a police officer tripped on the curb, slammed into a small tree and fell onto the ground but quickly got up and continued the foot chase of the suspect.

The suspect continued running, going around the corner and in an alleyway near an apartment complex.

But the suspect didn’t stay there long, and unaware of the patrol vehicle that just stopped near him, the suspect began to run again along the sidewalk than crossing into the street.

As the suspect began to run into the street, a police officer football tackled the suspect down onto the asphalt.

The suspect was handcuffed and taken into police custody.

At this moment, the suspect and the children did not suffer an injuries during the police pursuit, and unknown if the police officer who fell suffered any injuries.

Great work to law enforcement for taking down the suspect well making sure kids were safe, and great work by the news crews reporting in their news helicopters the police pursuit.
