News Update: Needles, CA: Vegetation fire put out along the 3200 block of Needles Highway.

Needles, California: Vegetation fire that was burning along the 3200 block of Needles Highway has been put out on Saturday, October 10th, 2020.

Firefighters from the San Bernardino County Fire Department and Mohave Valley Fire Department responded to the vegetation fire at 9:00 p.m. PT on Friday, October 9th, 2020.

ZachNews Photojournalist Zachary Lopez rushed to the scene, and began broadcasting live at ZachNews on Facebook.

Smoke was seen coming from the tall cedar trees and thick vegetation that lined along this portion of Needles Highway just across the street from Pair-A-Dice Boat and RV Storage as firefighters worked to get the fire out.

Deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Colorado River Station responded to the scene and close Needles Highway to all motorists from Interstate 40 to National Trails Highway (Historic Route 66).

Construction equipment from the City of Needles was called in and cruise helped firefighters clear out through the thick vegetation so that firefighters can get more water onto the fire.

For the next few hours, firefighters and City of Needles crews worked together to surround and soak down the vegetation fire, working to prevent the vegetation fire from going further north where some residential structures were located.

Deputies began opening up Needles Highway to a single lane, doing traffic control so that motorists can get through cautiously around the vegetation fire.

At around 1:00 a.m. PT on Saturday, October 10th, 2020, no more smoke was seen and firefighters and City of Needles work crews were managed to get the fire put out the vegetation fire put out.

A few minutes later, deputies began opening up on of the roadway to motorists along this busy traveled Needles Highway, used by many travelers going to Laughlin, Nevada.

At this moment, no reports of any damages or injuries related to the vegetation fire.

The cause of the vegetation fire is not yet known and is under investigation.
