Needles, California: Power has been restored after a power out occurred at around 5:30 p.m. PT on Tuesday, September 22nd, 2020.
ZachNews has learned from Needles City Manager Rick Daniel that the cause of the power outage was due to a vehicle that ran into the ground transformer sometime this week, left the scene and never reported the collision.
The ground transformer, located in a dirt lot behind Rite Aid store just south off Ice Plant Road, began leaking out oil and when the oil ran out, the power went out.
The ground transformer is part of the new Inter-tie Power Line, and feed power to residence and businesses Rite Aid, along River Road and the neighborhood north of the railroad tracks including Market Street, North K Street, Chestnut Street, and Needles Highway.
Utility Crews from the City of Needles went out to the scene, repaired the transformer and got power fully restored at around 7:30 p.m. PT tonight.
City of Needles is investigating this running into ground transformer incident.
If anybody has any information regarding the vehicle that hit the ground transformer, please contact Rainie Torrance at the City of Needles at: 1 (760) 326-2113 Extension 140.
