Downtown Needles, California: Set Free Church of Needles held their 8th anniversary and grand opening of “Born Again” Thrift Store on Saturday, September 19th, 2020 with a ribbon cutting and party.

ZachNews Photojournalist Zachary Lopez was broadcast live on Facebook the ribbon cutting ceremony held in front of the new thrift store located at 857 Front Street, and the church’s anniversary celebration that was held at Santa Fe Park.

Members of Set Free Church of Needles and the Needles Chamber of Commerce gathered to cut the ribbon to the “Born Again” Thrift Store, which relocated from off North K Street near Needles Highway to just across the street from Santa Fe Park on the corner of Front Street and F Street; bring another shop into the downtown area.

People attending the event enjoyed free barbecued burgers and hot dogs served with potato salad, water and soda, free raffles were held for bikes, skateboards and scooters for the kids and vouchers for the adults for the “Born Again” Thrift Store, and trophy giveaways for the best looking and sounding motorcycles.

There was also testimonies of faith and uplifting live music from the Set Free Church of Needles Band to give people in the community hope and togetherness even during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This was the first public community event to be held since the COVID-19 pandemic canceled community gatherings and events because of the California Governor’s “Stay-At-Home” order issued earlier this year; church organizers encouraged face coverings and social distancing to people attending the event.

According to their website, in 2012 Set Free Church of Needles, California was born out of Set Free Christian Fellowship, Yucaipa, California when the Arizona Southern Baptist Convention gave the property of the old First Baptist Church in downtown Needles to Set Free.

At the heart of the Tri-State Area of California, Nevada, and Arizona, Needles is diverse in its culturalization and demographics.

It is the ideal location for sharing the Love of Jesus Christ by which the most desperate of human needs may be met.

Members of Set Free Church of Needles are active in the community; participating in cleaning ups of the community, providing services to help people who are struggling with life and various forms of addiction, and holding events that welcome all the community into their church, including Easter EGG-Stravaganza, Hallowed Be His Name, Haunted House inside the El Garces Train Depot in October 2019, Thanksgiving Feast and Christmas Toy Store and Bike Giveaway which gives away food and toys for families in the community well also giving the message of hope and faith through Jesus Christ.
