San Bernardino County, California: The San Bernardino County Local 935 Professional Firefighters announced on Facebook publicly on Facebook of the passing of San Bernardino County Fire District Firefighter Cory Norton.
According to the San Bernardino County Local 935 Professional Firefighters, Cory Norton passed away early in the morning of Tuesday, September 15th 2020 from complications of Epithelioid Sarcoma.
Cory would have turned 35 years old on Sunday, September 20th, 2020.
Cory began his career with the San Bernardino County Fire District in 2008, after serving 4 years as a Pay-Call Firefighter.
Cancer took the career that he loved so much from him in July of 2018.
According to the San Bernardino County Local 935 Professional Firefighters, many have been following Cory’s almost 5 year battle with a rare cancer.
Civilians and public service personnel alike were inspired by his tenacity, his positive mindset, and his refusal to back down from every single chemo treatment, radiation treatment, or invasive surgical intervention that broke his physical body.
“We used terms like “Norton Strong” and “Fight On Cory Norton” as an attempt to put words to an effort from a warrior that fought beyond compare,” wrote the San Bernardino County Local 935 Professional Firefighters via Facebook.
Cory’s commitment to setting a standard of recognition of fire service related cancer, and a refusal to back down to it’s perilous prognosis on behalf of dedication to his wife and two precious kids was beyond remarkable.
“We will all try to come to grips with the loss of Cory. We all knew that this was a possibility, but we never wanted it to be a reality. We will always treasure the practical jokes, the food challenges, and his sarcastic tone that you never really knew whether he was joking or serious. He was intellectual, but grounded. He was tough, but also kind. He was a proud husband, father, brother, and a son. There was no reason that this senseless disease should shorten the life of this man. He did as he said he would do. He was a fighter right until the last second of his life. Cory, our brother, your fight will be carried on by the rest of us. We will take this burden and carry the torch to call attention to the cause that you endured more than any servant should. You take your deserved rest. We love you. We stand with your family. You will forever Fight On Cory Norton. In all of us you will Fight On!” wrote the San Bernardino County Local 935 Professional Firefighters via Facebook.
Cory is survived by his wife Tawni, his 6 year old son Cole, and 4 year old daughter Tenley.
