Needles, California: A newly discovered comet was seen streaking over the community during the evening on Friday, July 17th, 2020.

Comet Neowise was discovered on Friday, March 27th, 2020 by a space observatory some 326 miles above Earth’s surface.

Comet Neowise, the brightest comet visible from the Northern Hemisphere in a quarter-century, was spotted by resident Ron Russell who shared pictures to ZachNews of the Comet Neowise flying by our area; providing a stunning nighttime show.

According to National Aeronautics and Space Administration (N.A.S.A.), the comet Neowise will make its closest approach, 64 million miles, to Earth on Wednesday, July 22nd, 2020, but the best viewing window is about an hour and a half after sunset between now until Sunday, July 19th, 2020; look to the north-northwest and it should be about 10 degrees above the horizon.

If you get pictures or short videos of comet Neowise and want to share them, please send them to: with your name and where you capture comet Neowise.

Thanks to ZachNews fan Ron Russell for sharing these great pictures with everybody.
