Needles, California: Residents and businesses in the downtown and California Avenue areas lost power just before 4:00 p.m. PT on Saturday, July 18th, 2020.
Calls began coming into ZachNews reporting power being out along West Broadway, D Street, E Street, Cibola Street near downtown, and along California Avenue and Eagles Pass Road.
ZachNews Photojournalist Zachary Lopez rushed out into the heat to find out what happened as more calls continued to come in.
Needles City Manager telling ZachNews that utility crews are locating the problem and will redirect power to get service back on as they fix the problem.
A few minutes later, utility trucks from the City of Needles began heading west along Eagles Pass Road from L Street.
ZachNews soon found them down the road working inside the Eagles Pass Road Substation.
Power began to be turn back on to the downtown area of Needles, California, and a few minutes ago to California Avenue and Eagles Pass Road areas.
As of 5:16 p.m. PT, Needles City Manager Rick Daniels tells ZachNews, “Everyone has service.”
As for what caused the power outage, Needles City Manager Rick Daniels tells ZachNews, “Overloaded underground wiring. Will replace it after temps cool a bit.”
Great work to the utility crews with the City of Needles for getting power back on to the community during the heat.
