Needles, California: A local ceremony that’s held each year at the Needles Riverview Cemetery on Memorial Day was unfortunately cancelled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Memorial Day ceremony brings local officials and the community together to remember those who gave their lives for their country as well as give thanks to those serving in our armed forces, emergency response and law enforcement.
A list of names are read during the ceremony of all who’ve passed away serving their country and protecting lives, read by City of Needles officials and the Fort Mojave Indian Tribe, as well as from those representing the San Bernardino County Fire department, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department and California Highway Patrol.
The ceremony also includes the Color Guard of the Fort Mojave Tribe Veterans conducting a 21-gun salute in honor of those who’ve served as well as special performance by the Fort Mojave Tribal Dancers and Fort Mojave Indian Tribal Band.
Because of the local ceremony being cancelled for this year, a video tribute titled “Needles Memorial Day Tribute 2020” was put together in just a few days before Memorial Day by Natalie Johnson of Fat Cat DJ Nat and Lee Choquette, featuring videos from past Memorial Day Ceremony in Needles, California from ZachNews.
In the post a description, it reads, “We would like to extend a warm Thank you to all in the community who have participated and made this event possible over the last decade. In the many years that this program has been going on there are times when Law Enforcement Officers and Fire Department Personnel were unable to come last minute as they had to attend to their duty and we would like to remember that many are in the background and don’t always get the recognition they deserve. We give a special thanks to all those who carry on the quiet help in the background to ensure our community is safe. In this emotional and unprecedented time we would like to also extend thanks to those who have been at the forefront: including all essential personnel who risk their lives to ensure the safety and well-being of those in our community. We salute all our heroes and honor those who serve.”
Well the local ceremony may have been cancelled for this year due to COVID-19, our love and support for those who serve and gave their lives protecting freedoms and lives for their country will never be cancelled; Thank You and God Bless America.
