Needles, CA: Deputies arrested a person for criminal threats and brandishing a weapon at Jack Smith Memorial Park.

Needles, California: Deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Colorado River Station arrested a person on Saturday, May 23rd, 2020 for criminal threats and brandishing a weapon at Jack Smith Memorial Park.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Colorado River Station, at about 7:21 a.m. PT on Saturday, deputies responded to the area of Jack Smith Park in Needles following the report of a disturbance.

When deputies arrived, they made contact with a number of citizens.

During the investigation, it was determined the suspect, Kiefer Sunderland, had pointed a knife at two people and threatened the life of at least one person.

Deputies learned the incident took place along the beach area of the Colorado River at about 7:10 a.m., and that the actions of Sunderland appeared to have been unprovoked.

Sunderland was contacted by deputies and placed under arrest for PC 422, Criminal Threats and PC 417, Brandishing a Deadly Weapon.

A knife was located and recovered from the scene.

Sunderland was transported to the Colorado River jail for booking.

Sunderland is to be held with a bail amount of $50,000, pending a court hearing.
