Needles, California: Members of the Needles Recreation and Parks Commission unanimously voted on Thursday, January 23rd, 2020 to rename Morris Street to JoJo Garcia Way after Joseph “JoJo” Garcia.
The unanimously vote came during discussion at the Needles Recreation and Parks Commission Meeting to memorialize an area for Joseph “JoJo” Garcia who passed away on Thursday, November 14th, 2019.
According to the agenda packet from the Needles Recreation and Parks Department, discussion and possible Council recommendation to memorialize an area/item in memory of Joseph Garcia, also known by many in the community as “Jose Garcia,” “Joe” and “JoJo”, who passed away on Thursday, November 14th, 2019. JoJo was a long-standing volunteer in the City of Needles. JoJo selflessly donated many hours/years to the City’s youth basketball and flag football league. He was also involved in Needles Little League, CRAGS Softball, St. Vincent thrift store and St. Ann’s Catholic church, to name a few.
Morris Street is located on the north side of Nikki Bunch Memorial Field and Franz Flowers Baseball Field where Joseph “JoJo” Garcia would volunteers at for youth flag football league, Needles Little League and CRAGS Softball.
The roadway along Morris Street is mainly a dirt roadway, access to a lot parking area for the baseball fields, and there are plans for this roadway to be paved and future plans for uses around the roadway.
