Needles, California: Installation work of the new replacement water line at the Lillyhill Drive bridge that was scheduled to start at 8:00 p.m. PT on Wednesday, January 22nd, 2020 has been cancelled and is delayed.
The plans was to remove the existing mainline and replace it with 1 and 1/2 new pipe in the Lillyhill Drive bridge.
ZachNews has learned from the City of Needles that the installation of the replacement pipe has been delayed for up to 30 days, and the pressurized mainline from the well fields in the Colorado River flood plain to the Needles Public Utility Authority reservoirs blew out that occurred a week ago on Tuesday, January 14th, 2020, limiting the ability of the Needles Public Utility Authority to maintain the surplus reservoir levels.
The Needles Public Utility Authority has applied to Caltrans for a permit to work in their right of way.
While it was hoped that the repairs could begin this evening, the City of Needles want the public to know that this may take up to 30 days to secure approval, and the local Caltrans office is expediting the permit.
In the meantime, the City of Needles is asking the community to save water.
