Pearl Harbor, HI: We remember the attack on Pearl Harbor 78 years ago today.
Just before 8:00am HST on Sunday, December 7th, 1941, Japanese fighter bombers and torpedo planes staged a sneak attack on the United States Naval Base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
The attack destroyed nearly 20 American naval vessels, including 8 enormous battleships and almost 200 airplanes, and killed more than 2,000 Americans soldiers and sailors as well as wounded 1,000 people.
A day after the attack on Pearl Harbor, the United States declared war on Japan and entered World War 2.
In a speech to United States Congress, United States President Franklin Roosevelt stated that the bombing of Pearl Harbor is, “A date which will live in infamy.”
On Saturday, December 7th, 2019, may we remember the men and women who lost their lives on that day, and may we honor those men and women who answered the call to protect lives and fight for our country during and after the attack on Pearl Harbor.
May we always honor all those men and women for their serve and for always giving their lives to protect our lives, our country, and our freedoms.
