Downtown Needles, CA: San Diego Volvo Sports America Club was greeted with City of Needles proclamation at Santa Fe Park.
Members of the San Diego Volvo Sports America Club stopped by Santa Fe Park in Downtown Needles, California on Saturday, November 9th, 2019 as part of their ride along historic Route 66.
The club drove along old Route 66 on Front Street towards Santa Fe Park in their several vintage Volvos from the 1950’s and 1960’s.
Greeting the club as they arrived were Needles Vice Mayor Dr. Edward T. Paget as well as Needles City Director of Development Services Patrick Martinez and Needles Chamber of Commerce Member Ivan Lofstrom.
During the visit to Santa Fe Park, members of the San Diego Volvo Sports America Club were presented with a City of Needles proclamation by Needles Vice Mayor Dr. Edward T. Paget.
Pictures were taken with the drivers and their vintage Volvos, including Bill Leake with his 1965 Volvo 1800s; Bob Brassard with his 1971 145S; Stu Shannon and co-pilot 6 year old Owen Shannon with his 2017 XC90; Todd Worthington with his 1972 164E; Bill Knepper with his 1973 144S; Robert Fritch with his 1968 220; and Mike Palmer with his 1962 Volvo 544.
ZachNews spoke to Bill Knepper, Tour Director, and Bob Brassard, President of the San Diego Volvo Sports America Club, about their ride along historic Route 66, their visit to our community and where the club is heading next on their ride.
After a few more pictures, the club said their goodbyes as they drove away from Santa Fe Park, getting back on their ride down historic Route 66.
