Needles, CA: Needles Middle School and Vista Colorado Elementary School held ‘It’s Cool to Walk to School’ event.

Needles Middle School and Vista Colorado Elementary School helded a ‘It’s Cool to Walk to School’ event on Tuesday, November 5th, 2019 in Needles, California.

A large group of kids, teachers and faculty gathered along Bailey Avenue near Nikki Bunch Memorial Ball Field to walk to the campus of Needles Middle School and Vista Colorado Elementary School.

The event was held to promote Safe Routes to School and it’s to encourage students and parents to walk to school safely.

Safe Routes to School (S.R.T.S.) is an approach that promotes walking and bicycling to school through infrastructure improvements, enforcement, tools, safety education, and incentives to encourage walking and bicycling to school.

Nationally, 10%–14% of car trips during morning rush hour are for school travel.

Safe Routes to School (S.R.T.S.) initiatives improve safety and levels of physical activity for students.

Safe Routes to School (S.R.T.S.) programs can be implemented by a department of transportation, metropolitan planning organization, local government, school district, or even a school.
