Needles, CA: Groundbreaking ceremony held for Needles Highway Improvement Project as a resort, bar and restaurant reminds public they’re still open.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the Needles Highway Improvement Project was held in Needles, California on Thursday, October 24th, 2019.

The groundbreaking ceremony was broadcasted live at ZachNews on Facebook.

Officials from the City of Needles along with County of San Bernardino Public Works and Transportation Department were in attendance for the shuffling of the dirt, commemorating the start of a long awaiting project for this community.

For years, the project went through environmental checks from the federal and state governments, and make sure there was enough funding to start construction on this portion of Needles Highway.

The portion of Needles Highway currently being worked on actually began on Thursday, October 10th, 2019 and will last a few months.

Needles Highway from National Trails Highway (Route 66) to Park Boulevard will be closed for the construction project as detours are placed, guiding motorists onto National Trails Highway to Park Boulevard to get around the Needles Highway closures.

Well the community is happy that the long awaiting Needles Highway Improvement Project has finally begun, there are some concerns being raised about the closures and detours effects on a local resort, bar and restaurant.

Cindy Sorci, restaurant owner of Riverfront Cafe inside the Rainbo Beach Resort, spoke to the press during an after groundbreaking ceremony luncheon about the lost of some business because of the construction, closures and detours in the area.

Cindy said that she’s happy that the road is getting done, but hopes that more signage letting the public know that they are still open for business during the construction along Needles Highway.

After Cindy talking to the press, those with the County of San Bernardino Public Works and Transportation Department were seen talking to each other about placing more signage for this business to address Cindy’s concerns.

A few years ago, the City of Needles released publicly a map to help motorists get around closures for the Interstate 40 Arizona State Route 95 Connector Project, that idea is being suggested and hopefully will be made.

ZachNews asked City of Needles officials if there’s been a map released publicly for this project and detours outlining were the public can access these businesses, and so far there isn’t any map released yet but that idea is a good idea to help guide people not only around the closure area, but also help guide people onto how to get to businesses that are still open during the construction project like Rainbo Beach Resort and Riverfront Cafe.

Until then, know that the entrance from Needles Highway at National Trails Highway is for Residents Only as well as those who want to do Business at Rainbow Beach Resort and eat at the Riverfront Cafe, both located at 3520 Needles Highway.

Otherwise, this portion of Needles Highway is not a thur-way traffic roadway because just north pass the entrance into Rainbow Beach Resort is a gap in the roadway, that portion of the roadway currently being worked on.

Also, motorist should also be aware that a portion of Needles Highway near Interstate 40 has some lane narrowing due to work being done along the side of the roadway also part of the project.

Overall, motorists should use caution through this area, Slow for the Cone Zone, and to pay attention to all signage in the area, as well as to please still do business at those businesses, bar and restaurant in the affected closure area.
