Officials from the California Welcome Center met on Thursday, August 8th, 2019 with members of the Needles Chamber of Commerce to discuss wanting a welcome center in their community.

Afterwards, the group of made up of just the officials from the California Welcome Center and some chamber members tour the inside of the temporary location of the Needles Chamber of Commerce where they met privately discussing their plans for a proposal welcome center.

The group then walked over to go inside the west end part of the El Garces Train Depot where eventually the Needles Chamber of Commerce would like to move into, and discuss their plans for a proposal welcome center when they move into the building.

Both locations that were toured had display markers, signage and map layout of what it would look like if there was a California Welcome Center.

According to Needles City Manager Rick Daniels, “From the City’s perspective, the Chamber’s presentation went well. Good information presented and appeared to be well received by the state officials. The state officials visited the existing Chamber office as well as the El Garces. The state officials will make a determination within the next few months about how the Needles Chamber proposal stacks up against other proposals from other cities that they received. The City was not a part of the entire meeting as the Chamber and the state officials met privately after our meeting.”

Many of the officials who came out to greet the officials from the California Welcome Center hope that their gateway into California community gets a welcome center soon.
