United States of America: Bicycle ride across the United States in hopes to raise money for Darkhorse Lodge.
A man on his bicycle has set off on a ride across the United States in hopes to raise money for Darkhorse Lodge.
On May 15th, 2019, Anthony C. Cirrincione, who also goes by the first name Tony, beginning his bicycle ride from his home from Camp Pendleton of the 3/5 Darkhorse unit San Diego, California to Darkhorse Lodge in Springhill, Tennessee.
As of Sunday, May 26th, 2019, Cirrincione was in Essex, California, and is planning to head into Needles, California along Route 66, continuing his journey entering into Arizona.
According to their Facebook page about the ride, Cirrincione is doing this to raise money for the Darkhorse Lodge, a non-profit 501 (c)(3) retreat for combat veterans of all branches to relax and relate to others who have walked in their boots.
Cirrincione learned about this organization while riding through Camp Pendleton on my last trip.
Cirrincione’s classmate from high school, Gretchen Catherwood lost her son in combat in Afghanistan on October 14, 2010.
According to Cirrincione, there’s a saying “You may not always remember what people say, but you will remember how they made you feel.”
During a dark moment in high school, Gretchen and Cirrincione walked home from school one day and while I don’t remember the whole conversation, it was having another person listen and being heard.
He hasn’t forgotten that moment and he can’t imagine losing a child nor can I imagine what it is like for the men and women in the military.
Cirrincione is dedicating this ride in the hope to raise $5,000 for Darkhorse Lodge in gratitude to the men and women and their families, who sacrifice their lives to keep our country safe.
